Sam lived in Sunningdale, outside of London, for almost three years before starting Emergency 9 Golf. Sam studied the works of architects such as: Willie Park, Jr., H.S. Colt, & Herbert Fowler, who's designs dominate the area. During this time, Sam also took multiple trips to Scotland to play on the world's best links courses. Prior to living in the UK, Sam studied Golf Course Architecture in Ireland (1999) and Scotland (2000) through Michigan State University.

While Sam started his career in the golf course design business, it is his diverse career which makes him uniquely qualified in the golf industry. Sam earned his MBA and quickly developed into leadership roles for a Fortune 100 Company. This experience enabled him to improve his competencies in traditional business fields. His corporate career included finance, marketing, and operations. Sam also focused on operational efficiency in each field he worked.

While working in the landscape service industry, Sam designed, sold, and construction managed projects while advancing into a management position. He has a very strong understanding of the green industry.

Sam graduated from The Ohio State University with a BS in Landscape Architecture. His career started in 1999 with David Savic's firm Old Course Design. Sam was fortunate to be involved in both historical restorations of existing courses as well as the design and construction of new builds.
